Pink diamonds are more than just gemstones; they are treasures of nature, formed under exceptional and mysterious conditions that make them one of the most coveted gems in the world. Their soft, captivating hues tell a story of a geological marvel, where only a select few diamonds take on this enchanting color. Unlike any other, pink diamonds possess a magic of exclusivity and beauty, with a history and allure that set them apart in the world of luxury. This article explores what makes pink diamonds so special for us and welcomes you into this exclusively magic world.
The Rarity of Pink Diamonds
Pink diamonds are incredibly rare, making them one of the most sought-after gemstones in the world. Less than 3% of GIA-certified diamonds are classified as colored, and among them, pink diamonds are three hundred times more scarce. Only 1 in every 10,000 diamonds (0.01%) qualifies as pink, which adds to their allure and exclusivity. Besides their coveted rarity, what sets pink diamonds apart is their purity, with far fewer impurities than most other diamonds, allowing their soft color to shine with unmatched beauty.
Their rarity makes pink diamonds a true treasure. Owning one is not just about luxury—it's about holding something truly special, a gemstone shaped by nature over millions of years and prized for its unique color.
Red Diamond
Deep in the pink diamond world is hidden the even more elusive red diamond, possibly the rarest diamond color in the world. It accounts for only 0.9% of all diamonds in the pink classification. Red diamonds are incredibly rare and are almost mythical in the world of gemstones. They are a true marvel, even within the already rare category of pink diamonds, making them a symbol of unparalleled exclusivity.

Choosing the Best Pink Diamond for You
When choosing the perfect pink diamond, personal taste and how the stone complements your personal style are key. One of the most desired shades is purplish pink. It offers a rich, captivating hue that stands out for its depth and luxurious feel. If you’re looking for something truly mesmerizing, this might be the perfect choice for you.
Another important factor to consider is your skin tone. Warmer skin tones often pair beautifully with pink diamonds that have golden or reddish undertones. Cooler skin tones, on the other hand, shine with pale pinks or purplish hues. By choosing a pink shade that enhances your complexion, you can make your diamond truly pop.
Don’t forget to think about the setting! Whether you’re leaning towards a delicate look reminiscent of a tender lavender, or something bolder with complementary coloured diamonds for a striking, dynamic feel, anything in between is possible and you should think about the pink diamond color combinations you’ve really loved.

Pink Diamonds' Unique Structure and Visual Characteristics
Pink diamonds stand apart due to their unique formation. Unlike other colored diamonds, which owe their hues to elemental impurities like nitrogen or boron, pink diamonds are formed through a process known as lattice deformation. This rare phenomenon occurs when the carbon crystal structure is stressed deep within the earth, causing slight distortions or "deformations" that result in their stunning pink color. In fact, 99.5% of pink diamonds get their color this way, without any chemical impurities involved.
These deformations also give pink diamonds distinct visual characteristics, such as wavy or grainy textures, which are sometimes visible under magnifications depending on the type of deformation. These unique traits make each pink diamond one-of-a-kind. Interestingly, inclusions in pink diamonds—imperfections within the stone—do not affect their value as much as they do in white diamonds, as the color and formation process itself are the primary factors that drive their desirability.
Worldwide Sources of Pink Diamonds
Pink diamonds form under rare geological conditions, found in only a few special places on Earth, making them all the more extraordinary. For decades, Australia's Argyle mine produced over 90% of the world's pink diamonds, but since its closure in 2020, the already limited supply has become even rarer. Traditionally, the remaining 10% came from regions like ,Brazil, and Africa. In recent decades, new diamond mines in Siberia and Northern Canada have also joined the global supply.
Argyle Pink Diamonds
Argyle Pink Diamonds deserve a special mention, having built a brand in the world of luxury gems. Mined in Western Australia, their exceptional color range and sheer production quantities set them apart. What truly distinguishes Argyle diamonds is their unique grading system, different from the traditional GIA method. Instead of descriptive terms like "Fancy Vivid Pink," Argyle uses a precise number-based system, offering 35 color grades, from 1PP to 9PR as well as special PC,BL and Red ranges. This indicates just how much more variety and choice there is amongst Argyle Pink Diamonds than any other mined worldwide.
